CLP REGULATION
CLP is the Regulation on classification, labelling and packaging of substances and mixtures.
From December 1, 2010, manufacturers, importers, and downstream users are required to classify, label, and package chemical substances within the scope of the CLP Regulation requirements before placing them on the EU market.Though substances already on the shelves on that date can continue to be supplied until 1 December 2012. The corresponding dates for mixtures are 1 June 2015 and 1 June 2017.
Another important requirement is that substances sold in the EU, both individually and in mixtures, must be accompanied by a Material Safety Data Sheet (MSDS) that meets the requirements of Annex 1 of EU Regulation 453/2010. These obligations are already in place since December 1, 2010.
Compliance with the new EU regulation managing classification, notification and product safety labelling is required for substances and mixtures subject to registration under the REACH Regulation, as well as all hazardous substances, irrespective of their tonnage and use. While the first CLP deadlines have passed, companies are advised to notify any substances placed on the EU market without delay. Additionally, companies should start to prepare for compliance with the next important CLP Regulation deadline of June 1, 2015 for mixtures.
